Tribute to Nikki

On a sunny Sunday in March,
High on a hill,
With the sky so blue as to be unbelievable,
And the breeze holding every promise of spring and a rebirth,
Nikki, our cherished Great Dane, and noble companion,
Took his leave of this life and those who loved him.
Disconsolate with his loss,
We are thankful nonetheless
To have shared his short time here
And will hold his splendid and gallant heart,
In ours forever.

Now, we can only. . .
Think of him as living
In the hearts of those he touched
For nothing loved is ever lost
And he was loved so much.

From Bob Kepner:
I'm so sorry you lost Nikki. I know how it hurts.

......Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you...
I loved you so--
 'twas Heaven here with you.

-- Isla Paschal Richardson

From Kate Byron:

"Farewell to a Beloved Friend"

Almighty and most merciful Father
Creator and Sustainer of all life,
Lover of all that thou hast made,
Whose Son Jesus Christ hath taught us
that not a sparrow falls to earth
     without thy knowledge;
We thank thee for the life and love of Nikki,
thy faithful creature and my faithful friend,
in good times a joyous colleague,
in sad times a loyal consolation,
in all times a trusted companion.
Most gracious Father,
who in thy love sent thy Son to die for sinful men
that they might live forever free from sin,
and in thy mercy made humbler
     creatures incapable of sin;
As thou hath promised to welcome us who
do sin and heartily repent, so much thee
     more receive Nikki who never sinned;
As he hath fulfilled his place in this fallen
world, so grant to him a place in thy
     perfect Kingdom,
That in the end both he and we,
created in thy love and blessed by thy mercy,
together may evermore rejoice to give thee thanks
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord.
Amen.

From John Mayhew:
Sorry to hear about Niki.  He was a super dog and we enjoyed every moment we had with him.  He almost made me want to get a Great  Dane.
From Bonnie Kepner:

Bob and I know how cherished a friend a dog can be.
We both grieve and celebrate with you.
From Georgia Pectal:

It is devastating to lose a beloved pet, especially one that you took such marvelous care of. He was a joy to have around and no doubt you will miss him dearly. It takes a while to release him, but let the tears bring forth their healing.

I will keep you all in my thoughts, especially as I view the pictures you so thoughtfully sent along with your lovely tribute to him.
From Susan Haupt:

Lori & Bruce - I am so sorry to hear that Nicki has passed on - I am so thankful
to have met him & known him if only for a few days.  Seeing him run on your new Farm, stealing my leggings only to tell me they were in His Home - he was a wonderful friend.

I am sure he will await your return at the Rainbow Bridge.

I am always so wordy, but words escape me - y'all will be in my prayers.

Susan

From brother Ed:

Really sorry to hear about Nikki, but I'm sure he's happy.  Great Spirit he had, beautiful pictures...

I will miss him as you do.

Blair Wolf

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
